According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Heather Cobler, a car landed on the roof of Boulder’s Greenbriar Inn early Thursday morning after a high-speed chase with law enforcement. According to Cobler, around 12:20 a.m he saw a silver Audi traveling above the posted speed limit, heading southbound at U.S. 36 at Nelson Road. Authorities identified the driver as 18-year-old Sam Powers, of Boulder.
As the deputy attempted to catch the car, Powers increased his speed to an estimated 90 mph, said Cobler. Soon, Powers lost control and ran off the road and left the ground as the car traveled over a berm. The car landed partly on the roof and wall of the Greenbriar Inn, and took a 5-foot by 2-foot chunk out of the wall.
According to Cobler, there were only one people in the restaurant, the owners who were not injured. Powers suffered minor injuries and was taken to Boulder Community Hospital. He was later booked at Boulder County Jail and was released on a bond of $2,500.
